During these meetings, the student should be prepared to briefly summarize the book's thesis, evidence, and compare and contrast it to other books read this semester and previously. The student's discussion grade will depend upon how well they demonstrate their understanding of the book as well as its relationship to the broader field of Southern history.

Weekly Reaction Paper--The student will write a 250-word reaction paper weekly. The student must choose their words carefully and avoid exceeding the established word limit. This paper must analyze the week's assigned reading. Papers should not summarize the readings.
